The Tajakante via ferrata near Ehrwald is one of the most scenic via ferrata in Austria. The steep passages are interrupted again and again by flat pieces to enjoy the view, with the breathtaking Zugspitze in the background. We meet at noon the day before the big tour through the Tajakante at the valley station of the Ehrwalder Almbahn.
On the day we want to climb over the short, but still difficult Seeben via ferrata to the Coburger Hütte, as a "small" warm-up, for the next day. We follow the hiking trail to the wall with the roaring Seebensee waterfall. Once there, we put on our safety equipment - consisting of helmet, climbing harness and via ferrata set - and start climbing. The steep climbing points, with three passages in difficulty level D, at the upper end of the via ferrata rating scale, demand a lot from us. In between, we can shake out our arms on short flatter wall steps and enjoy the view of the impressive Zugspitze massif. After 200 steep meters we reach the exit with the idyllic plateau and the Seebensee. Comfortably we continue to the Coburger Hütte, where we will spend the night . There we end the day and discuss tomorrow's tour. After breakfast we will start on the hiking trail to the entrance of the Tajakante. The route follows the edge and holds a great view with the Zugspitze in the background. After we have put on our safety equipment at the entrance, we follow the ridge and overcome the first airy climbing points and a small overhang.
After a flat section we make our way to the upper steep part. The difficulties do not subside and continue to move in the area C/D of the via ferrata evaluation. Over and over again the upswings get challenging and demand some arm strength.
The last meters of the ridge are leading us into flat terrain over where we reach the summit. After hat, we will enjoy a snack with a unique view.
The descent again holds some wire rope insured places ready for us, before we reach the alpine meadow with the Drachensee and soon afterwards again the Coburger Hütte. After another rest, we finally make the last part of the descent and follow the leisurely hiking trail back to the parking lot.
