Experience the unspoilt beauty of the Mieminger Kette on a guided hike through the wild Mieming mountains up to the Zugspitze.
The Mieminger Kette lies hidden behind the Wetterstein massif on Tyrolean soil and is relatively undeveloped. This beautiful multi-day hike therefore offers secluded paths in the shadow of the Zugspitze. We hike past high plateaus and rugged rock faces, have spectacular viewpoints, crystal-clear mountain lakes and hidden gorges. This mountain hike offers a variety of landscapes and challenges. A special experience awaits us during the overnight hut stays, when we spend the night in rustic mountain huts and can enjoy the peace and quiet in wild surroundings before we climb Germany's highest mountain, the Zugspitze, from the Tyrolean side. We cross over the Gatterl to the German side and spend the night at the Knorrhütte before tackling the ascent to the Zugspitze on the last day. Accompanied by experienced mountain hiking guides who know the secrets and beauty of the Mieminger mountains and the Zugspitze, this guided hike is an unforgettable journey for all nature lovers and hiking enthusiasts who want to explore the natural and tranquil mountain world around the Zugspitze.
Daily stages:
Day 1: Meeting point at the valley station of the Ehrwalder Almbahn and ascent together to the mountain station. We climb up the Ganghofer Steig via the Brendlkar and immerse ourselves in the wild mountain world of the Mieminger Kette. We descend via the Hintere Tajatörl to the beautiful and ice-cold Drachensee lake and can already see our stage destination, the Coburger Hütte. In the afternoon, you can walk around the Drachensee lake.
Total ascent: 830 metres / total descent 400 metres / walking time 4-5 hours.
Day 2: From the Coburger Hütte we climb over scree fields up to the Grünsteinscharte. We slowly descend over scree fields to the Lehnberghaus, where we take a break and descend the last few metres to Obsteig. We take a transfer to our destination for today, Wildermieming, and spend the night in an inn.
Total ascent: 400 metres / total descent 1200 metres / walking time 4-5 hours.
Day 3: Today is the longest day for us. After breakfast, we hike along forest roads to the Straßberghaus. After a short rest on the beautiful terrain, we tackle the remaining metres in altitude to the Niedere Munde at 2059m. The Niedere Munde is the only way to cross the Mieminger Kette on marked paths in a north-south direction. From the saddle we have our first view of the Zugspitze, our next stages and the surrounding mountains of the Mieminger Kette as far as the Inntal valley. From here we descend on a good path to a beautiful little mountain hut where we will spend the night.
Total ascent: 1250 metres / total descent 730 metres / walking time 7-8 hours.
Day 4: Today we start our hike towards the Zugspitze. Via the Steinernes Hütterl we climb over alpine pastures up to the ‘Gatterl’ and cross the border from Austria to Germany. From here, the landscape changes again and we find ourselves in the enormous karst landscape of the Zugspitz plateau. Our stage destination, the Knorrhütte, is not far away and we enjoy the last few metres to our accommodation.
Total ascent: 950 metres / total descent 280 metres / walking time 5-6 Hours.
Day 5: The last day takes us through the bizarre rock and grass formations of the plateau up to the Sonn Alpin glacier restaurant. From there, we have to grit our teeth for the last 400 metres in order to reach the roof of Germany and be captivated by the fabulous panoramic view. Alternatively, this last part can also be conquered with the glacier railway. We descend in the Tiroler Zugspitzbahn gondolas, from which we can once again look back with satisfaction and pride at the Zugspitze summit.
Total ascent: 920 metres / Total descent: 30 metres / Walking time: 4 Hours.
