Fascination ice climbing. Under the professional guidance of a mountain guide from the Garmisch Alpine School, we will learn everything you need to know about climbing frozen waterfalls over four intensive course days. Risk assessment, knowledge of materials, independent climbing and abseiling on hourglasses represent only a fraction of the course content.
The Naturfreundehaus in Kolm-Saigurn and its rustic innkeeper "der Hermann" are the ideal base for this. There is an artificially created ice fall right in front of the house and all natural waterfalls can be reached practically on foot in a few minutes. In addition, the in-house sauna awaits you with cozy warmth after a day out in the cold.
For a fee of €30 per day, mountaineering boots suitable for use with crampons can be hired from us.
We ask for a separate reservation stating your shoe size to info(at)alpinschule-garmisch.de
Process:
Day 1:
After we have met in the Naturfreundehaus Kolm Saigurn, there will be a material check and an introduction to the different pieces of equipment and their areas of application. At the ice climbing tower in front of the house we make the first attempts at climbing on the ice and bring all participants up to speed on the subject of safety technology. A first introduction to setting ice screws as well as climbing and punching techniques rounds off this first day.
2nd+3 day:
On these two days we go to some smaller, simple waterfalls and familiarize ourselves with the peculiarities of attaching fixed points in the ice. At first we just follow, but already practice setting ice screws from the climbing position. Another focus is on climbing technique and climbing tactics. How can I climb in a particularly energy-saving way and where can I attach my safety points as economically as possible.
Day 4:
Today we deepen the knowledge we have learned and make our first attempts at lead climbing - if necessary secured in top rope. The central topic of stand construction is on the daily list today.
After a last stop together we start our journey home in the afternoon.
